I started working in photography in 1959 with my grand father who
invited me along for excursions above the San Francisco Bay Bridge for
long exposures at night. My grand father, James, was an inventor and had
an acute understanding of how things work... I'd like to think some of
that rubbed off on me.
Over the years I have photographed hundreds of sporting events and made my living selling sports photography. I was known for my sports sketches and posters that captured the essences of many many young athletes.
I was also fortunate enough to instruct small photo classes at Maidu High School. This was during the exciting time of transition from film to digital. We were working in the darkroom in the morning and in the computer lab in the afternoon. A number of my students went on to become accomplished photographers, some professionally.
These days my attention has turned to painting with pastels and water color. I have a full studio on our property on the East Fork of the Lewis River in Yacolt WA. I still do portrait work there as well as photograph artwork for publications. The portraits can then become painting which I do in the same studio. See Below....
